WHO WE ARE
As a non-profit organization our ministry is to encourage college students to embrace principles that will refresh, clarify, and strengthen their relationships and their lives. We focus on the message of purity and/or abstinence in relationships for reasons we're dying to tell you…for now just know that we're here to encourage college age young adults in every way we can.
Cantice Greene, Founder
http://vergeonline.blogspot.com
Cantice founded Verge with her husband Darrell in 2005 after having facilitated classes for youth who made abstinence commitments at her church's inaugural Naked Truth Conference. It was serving in this capacity that helped Cantice realize that her passion for abstinence was a full-time passion. Having had to recommit to Jesus Christ and abstinence when she was a junior in college, Cantice realizes the power of pure living and a clean sex-life in the life of a college student. Her devotion to college students led her to become a professor of English. On the campus, her goals are two fold. She instructs students in the many arts of composition and communication and she supports campus group efforts toward the spiritual formation of students. Cantice and her family are members of Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church in Atlanta Georgia and have served the ministry there since 1997. She and her husband have three sons, Joshua, Timothy, and Simeon.
Acasia Barrett
As the first recipient of the Verge Activism Scholarship, Acasia's involvement in public health and campus ministry spans back to her undergraduate days at Spelman College . As a sophomore, she founded Virtue, a campus ministry whose mission is to build a network and community of individuals who have made a commitment to refrain from sexual activities until marriage. Though Acasia graduated in 2008, the ministry still flourishes on the campus of Spelman College . Acasia now studies Public Health at George Washington University . She is one of the sharpest young minds in her field, especially regarding sexual health and strategies for Christian ministries to engage college students with the messages of abstinence and purity. Acasia is also heavily involved in projects focusing on HIV/AIDS education, prevention and treatment. Her call and passion for God's people is a constant force and motivation in all that she aspires to do. Among her many goals, Acasia desires to empower and encourage adolescent girls and women, and one day to establish a health and wellness center to provide holistic health, disease prevention, and spiritual healing for marginalized women of society.
